On this day in 1939, the first regular postal air transport service by rotary wings began. A Kellett KD-1 autogiro chartered by Eastern Airlines took off from the roof of the downtown Philadelphia post office, and landed six minutes later on Camden Airfield in New Jersey, where the bags were transferred in A DC-3 from the same airline.
