On this day in 1959, the Kaman Seasprite helicopter was flying for the first time. Designed to meet a request from US Navy for a compact ship-based helicopter, which can ensure transport and anti-submarine Missions, it was put into service in 1962. the Seasprite was originally a single-engine h/c, but it was then retrofitted with two GE turbines. Outside of the US Navy, the neo-Zealanders were the main users.
