Etosha National Park is a vast area (nearly 23000km2) 400km north of Windhoek, and was proclaimed a national park in 1967. The Etosha pan giving its name to the park covers one fourth of the area. The park is home to hundreds of species of mammals, birds and reptiles, including several threatened and endangered species such as the black rhinoceros.
