- Information
On this day in 1923, was born Charles E. 'Chuck' Yeager in a small village in West Virginia. At age 22, he was already an USAAF ace with 11.5 victories to his credit, including a Me262 jet. At age 24, he became the first pilot to break the sound barrier flying the Bell X-1. At age 30, he was still the fastest man alive at Mach 2.44. Thanks to Tom Wolfe, his name will forever be associated with 'the Right Stuff'
