On this day in 1919, the Junkers F.13 transport plane performed its maiden flight. Leveraging the constructive principles developed on the J 10 fighter at the end of WWI, the F.13 is the first full-aluminum monoplane airliner, with a capacity of four passengers. Parting from the then usual wood and fabric biplane design, the F.13 was a revolutionary aircraft at the time, which started the beginning of modern transport aviation as we know it today. It's been 100 years since all planes (of this size) look more or less like this.
