- Information
On this day in 1964, The Prototype of the Hawker Siddeley FGA.1 Kestrel performed its maiden flight piloted by Bill Bedford. Compared to the P.1127 demonstrator that had flown 4 years earlier, the Kestrel included a more powerful engine, a redesigned wing, and more efficient tails. In addition to the Royal Air Force, it has been evaluated by the German Luftwaffe and the US Air Force, which thus began the adventure of the VTOL fighter.
