On this day in 1984, the 737-300, first of the new generation of Boeing medium range, made its first flight from Renton. Re-engined with the new high dilution rate CFM56, burning less fuel and making less noise than the JT8, it had been a challenge to integrate these engines under the wing of the 737, rather low over the ground. Nearly 2000 aircraft of this generation would be delivered, in addition to the 1000 of the 1st. To this date, more than 15000 737 have been ordered, all versions considered.
