On this day in 1945, as he was coming back from a recce mission over England, Hptm. Felde prepared his Arado 234 Blitz for approach to his base in Rheine airfield and reduced his airspeed. A Hawker Tempest V used the opportunity to get close to it and shot it down. It was the first time a jet aircraft was shot down in aerial combat.
