On this day in 1964, a C-135F, the first from an order of 11 tankers by French Air Force, lands in Paris. Those aircraft were a pre-requisite to the setup of an airborne dissuasion force in France and they were dedicated to the missions of the Mirage IV nuclear bomber. At the time they had only the central refuelling point, a bare aluminum paint and Pratt&Whitney J57 engines. Since then the Mirage IV have been retired, but the tankers have been modernized and are still there.
