On this day in 1971, Mcdonnell Douglas delivered the 4000th Phantom II production aircraft to the US Air Force, 10 years after its first introduction with the U.S. Navy. This was an F-4E, which was then converted into a F-4 G Wild Weasel and eventually into a QF-4 G Drone target. Production will last 10 years more, with almost 5200 aircraft delivered to 11 countries on top of the 3 US military branches.
