- Information
On this day in 1918, Manfred Von Richthofen declared the Platz V.11 as the winner of the competition for the new Luftwaffe fighter plane. Platz had to extend the fuselage and modify the fin because the Red Baron initially judged it was too unstable. Powered by a 160 HP Mercedes engine, 400 were initially ordered under the name Fokker D.VII, but eventually more than 3300 were built.
