On this day in 1985, after several years of redevelopment by McDonnell Douglas, the AV-8 B Harrier II Vertical Take-off & Landing aircraft enters service within the VMA-331 'Bumblebees' of the U.S. Marine Corps based in Cherry Point, NC. It can lift twice the load of it's predecessor.
