On this day in 1957, 62 years ago, only one of the three Boeing B-52 Stratofortress bombers which had taken off two days earlier landed in March AFB, south of Los Angeles after closing a non-stop flight around of the world. The flagship of the Strategic Air Command had traveled 24325 miles (39147km) at the average speed of 534mph (859 km/h), thanks to four air-to-air refueling. The other two aircraft had to interrupt their flight because of mechanical problems.
