- Information
On this day in 1949, Marcel Dassault attends the first flight of his firstjet fighter, the Ouragan (Hurricane). He designed and built it in less than 15 months after convincing French state to fund three prototypes. Even if some concepts are borrowed from the P-80 and F-86 Americans , powered by a license-built engine under Rolls Royce engine, the long-term goal is to find an independence in an area on which France was distanced over WWII. Nearly 120 Ouragan would be ordered by the French, Indian, Israeli and Salvador air forces.
